Xiaomi launches its Apple MacBook competitor with 8th-gen Intel processors in China




NEW DELHI: Xiaomi has launched a new laptop that can potentially be pitched against the Apple Macbooks - Mi Notebook Air 13.3-inch version. While the laptop was there in the market since past couple of years, this one has now been updated with Intel 8th-gen processors. The new model comes in two variants with one running Core i5 processor and the other powered by Core i7 processor.

The laptop has a 13.3-inch full HD display with 170-degree wide-viewing angle and 80.1% screen is to body ratio. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and has a narrow bezel of 5.59mm.
The Intel 8th-gen Core i7 variant is supported by 8GB DDR4 RAM and 256GB SSD storage. It also features NVIDIA GeForce MX150 GPU and 2GB GDDR5 dedicated RAM. The Core i5 variant, except for the processor, shares the same set of specifications. Both are available in Deep Space Gray colour variant.


The connectivity options stay the same as the previous versions. These include dual Wi-Fi band support, Bluetooth v4.1, USB Type-C, USB 3.0 port, HDMI and 3.5mm headphone jack. The laptop is backed by a 4-cell Li-ion battery with support for fast charging. The upgraded Mi Notebook Air is said to deliver up to 8 hours of online video playback.

As for the audio, the Mi Notebook Air 2018model sports RealTek ALC255 sound card and dual speakers powered by Dolby Audio Premium. There is also a webcam with 1MP sensor.


Users in China can get their hands on the laptop at a starting price of Yuan 5,399 (roughly Rs 53,800). The shipping is said to begin from January 24. It has not been mentioned when the device will hit other regions.

Xiaomi has already launched its Mi Notebook Pro laptops running on the same processors, last year. It has nearly the same specifications except for a bigger display and battery.
